sqeaking in under the wire
By me • Nov 3rd, 2008 • Category: Mr. Codejnki, nablopomo, today's blog 365 postThis one is squeaking in under the wire - after being woken up by Mr. McNeedy meowing his scratchy “I smoke three packs a day” meow and hurtling himself repeatedly at the bedroom door around 4:30 this morning (because he was bored. And had to beat the shit out of his brother.) I worked the day shift at the reference desk (and really, is it just too much to ask that someone who is an undergraduate student at a research university to - after you look up a book they couldn’t remember the full title of OR an author and approximate date, or anything else other than “the cover had some blue on it” - be able to, with call number in had, walk up a flight of steps and find the books themselves? Because about a dozen students today had a real issue with that concept), had a couple meetings, finished some homework, got in the car, and headed across the state* so tomorrow morning I can do my civic duty and cancel out my father’s vote. So everyone out there in the US - if I can drive 163 miles one way just to make sure I get to cast my ballot, so can you. And then you can tell me what a wimp I am, driving across the state was NOTHING, you walked barefeet, in the snow, uphill both ways, through a rabid pack of wolves just so you could stand in line for 8 hours in the -20 degree weather, before you finally cast your vote - which you had to hand write with an ink quill.
*why yes, someone was a dumbass and forgot to get their absentee ballot turned in on time, even though her boyfriend reminded her every single fucking day about it**
**and to his great credit he’s kept the “I told you so’s” to a bare minimum.
