senioritis

By me • Nov 2nd, 2008 • Category: school, today's blog 365 post

Senioritis is not due to the direct physiological effects of a general medical condition such as hypothyroidism or insomnia but is typically said to include: slowness, procrastination, apathy regarding school work, a feeling of entitlement or privilege and a tendency toward truancy, increased drug use, malingering or feigning illness in order to avoid presence in a school setting, cognitive impairments, and changes in sleep patterns.” -Wikipedia

This semester I have two online classes - Scripting Languages and Database Design.  (and another one on campus, but it’s kinda a joke so I don’t really count it) And, at least in theory,  I’m interested in both subjects as they are engaging, complex, and allow me to do some really cool shit. On top of that both of them are taught by professors I really like and have worked with many times in the past. So this should equal to me having a good final semester, right? Yeah, not so much.  Right now I’m guessing that my problem with this semester is just me, because the only thing I’m actually getting out of the hours I sit in front of the computer watching the lectures is one big ass scarf.

(Mr. Codejnki is a geek who NEEDS a Dr. Who scarf)

And yeah, the dedicated knitting time is nice, but damn, senioritis has never been this bad before. (and as someone who has spent 24 of her 31 years in school, I’ve dealt with this problem a few times before) Right now I seriously could not give a shit less about what I should be learning. I even pulled up my tuition bill, hoping that reminding myself of the astronomical amount I’ve paid to learn all of this would shame me into getting my ass in gear, but no such luck. I think bribery may have to be my next tactic - although, considering the advanced stages of the disease that I’m in,  I’m not sure even that will work at this point.

  1. I think that that scarf is just about long enough. It is really cool looking and I am sure that he loves it. I can not wait to see you tomorrow and then off to the polls we go to vote bright and early Tuesday morning (either before or after our dough nuts and coffee).

  2. yep, after all, we need to cancel out our parent’s votes….unfortunately the scarf is only about 1/2 done, part of the charm of this particular piece is the fact that it absolutely humongous.

  3. I can certainly relate to not having motivation to work. Even though, I am very nervous about my impending exams, I cannot force myself to work on it!

  4. I’m only in my second term back to school and couldn’t give a shit less. If this is how I feel now, I hate to see what I’m like in 5 or 6 years (I’m doing the extended plan in the interest of holding off Sallie Mae that much longer)

  5. Well, I’d rather see the long ass scarf than increased drug use.

Hang in there - it’s almost over!!!
