Heidelberg

Today I could have done one of three things:

  1. Continue working on my homework so I’m not up all Monday night trying to get it done for Tuesday.
  2. Reorganize a closet that desperately needs it, find my spring/summer clothes, and pack away my winter clothes. (most but not all - this is Michigan after all, it has snowed in May before)
  3. Forget being a responsible adult, just enjoy being outside in the sun, and finally go see the Heidelberg Project.

Really, was it even a choice?

Often the violence in this city scares me. Sometimes the problems it faces overcomes me with sadness. But today it’s resilience and odd beauty just amazed me. Lots of cars were going very slowly up and down the street - people leaning out their windows taking pictures, obviously too scared to get out. Other than the residents of the street I was the only person out walking around. Life was simply going on as normal in the middle of an urban art gallery. People were grilling outside, visiting neighbors, and stopping to talk to me as I took pictures. It was all so unexpectedly moving, so unique and bizarre, that I took picture after picture trying to capture the essence of the block. It was impossible to get everything, but I tried - go see.
