small miracles
By me • Apr 17th, 2008 • Category: misc, today's blog 365 postA lot has happened in the last couple days. Some of it good, some of it bad, and some of it just makes me a little sad. I’ll know more in the next few days and tell you about some of it later, I just don’t want to jinx myself. Instead of dwelling on what might or might not happen I’d like to share a few of the small miracles that happened to me today.
- I flipped a guy off while driving down the streets of Detroit and didn’t get shot. (amazing, I know, I had momentarily forgotten where I was)
- I got a parking spot right next to the well-lit elevator in the parking structure. (essential when you’re a single woman walking back to your car alone at night on a campus that’s had a scarily large number of assaults)
- It’s sunny and beautiful so I didn’t need to wear a coat to school! Plus I was able to pull some of my favorite summer shirts out of storage.
- In the sunlight my grey hairs just look like highlights
- no spam in my gmail acct today
- the doorman at my building was actually there when I needed to get something
- I didn’t have to set the alarm to wake up this morning (quick question, why, on days you don’t need to get up early, are you up, happy, and ready to go at 7:30 am, but on days you have be somewhere it’s all you can do to drag your sorry ass out at the last minute?)
- I had the time to sit on my couch, relax, drink a great cup of coffee, and watch HGTV for an hour.
- studying for today’s final involved watching this video (it’s WAY more accurate than you would ever believe)
- I get to go home to this guy

I made it to class on time and I managed to respond to my mother with calmness instead of anger when she did something that upset me.
Today it is very easy to be negative and frightened at work. Thanks for the reminder to focus on the good.
The weather is my miracle, too. In fact, I think I shall leave work on time and go enjoy it a bit.
My small miracle? Getting my rental car (and having the guy who hit me paying for it)!

Not exactly small miracles, but things to appreciate: My hot water bottle stayed warm until past 3am so my feet didn’t get cold all last night: I got some code working yesterday and I feel better about my research than I have for months (actually, that might actually be a miracle): Fish and chips. Plus, I discovered that Project Runway (season 4) which I first heard about on your blog (I don’t have a tv at home so I miss a lot) started here last night so I can now watch it and see what all the fuss is about
