wonderful finds

The best thing about working in a library? A never ending supply of reading material whenever you go to lunch. Which you gotta have, because the librarians and staff where I work just aren’t socializers. The staff break room is a very odd place. Imagine if you took all the loners in high school, you know the kids who sat by themselves reading a book during lunch and never said a word to anyone ever, aged them 40 years, and then employed them all in one place.

Creepy, huh?

It’s a very weird and charged atmosphere. I can’t say I really like it, so most days I choose to sit in the cafe next door and people watch. Which, at least to me, is vastly entertaining. But occasionally the peace and quiet of the staff break room is nice, so as I’m walking through the stacks I’ll randomly grab a book to take with me and leaf through while I eat lunch. I’ve found some great stuff too - yesterday my brain was fried from a massive amount of schoolwork the night before so I grabbed The New Yorker 75th Anniversary Cartoon Collection and I’ve found all kinds of gems to share with you when I fall into a blogging slump. (such as right now) Some of them are poignant, some a cerebral, but they’re all funny.

This one in particular grabbed me.

Is it weird that I laughed, realized that I was laughing at my own ridiculous attitude toward relationships right now, and then laughed even harder? And that’s the first step to getting rid of it, right?

  1. I am going to print that out and give it to one of my friends…that is so perfect!

  2. In some ways, it’s more that particular place. Sometimes I think that not all of them ever learned how to play nicely with others, not that they’re horrible or anything but it’s a huge place and by default you’d get a W I D E range of um, personalities.

Sometimes our lounge is so blasted loud that it disrupts my nap I’m trying to take. Dang. ;-)
