spring fever

Earlier today I had written a whole post about the OTHER type of spring fever that has it’s grip on me. It was raunchy, funny, and let the entire internet know just how badly I need to get laid. But then I checked my Statcounter and realized how often my parents read my blog and, well, I chickened out. I may have no problem telling the whole anonymous world all the gory details of how I burned out a vibrator, but my parents? Let’s just say that I decided to save my poor Dad the heart attack. (just consider it an early Father’s Day present, ‘kay?)

So while that itch remains unscratched I was at least able to get a flower fix today. I never planned on being a gardener. Growing up I made as much fun of them as I made of the scary cat ladies. But since fate is an evil evil bitch I’ve developed into one over the past few years. But I just figured that I’d hold out while living in a high rise, in a small studio, with plant eating cats. Really, I was convinced I didn’t need houseplants, I preferred growing things in a garden anyway. So I’ve been actively ignoring the garden centers that have been popping up all over lately; but with the sun, warm(ish) temps, and the desperate need to get my mind off that fact I’m horny as hell I caved. I had to go out and buy myself something.

I managed to not go too crazy though. I used to have a tendency to go into a garden center and pick up every sad, pathetic, dying plant I could find, take them home, and nurse them back to health. But now that I have three cats that love eating foliage I’m much pickier about what comes into my home. Not only does the plant have to be pretty but it has to be non-toxic, and that really narrows down the amount of species available. After much hunting today I did end up with a beautiful blush colored mini rose bush and an african violet. Both of which have already passed the Harvey taste test.

I had forgotten how pretty and calming houseplants can make a room. Just looking at them makes me smile. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to run to the store because I just realized that I’m almost out of AAs. And there’s no way I’ll make it though the week without them.
