points for honesty

I’m not going to graduate until December but I’m already on the lookout for jobs. I just can’t afford not to be. I’m subscribed to multiple listservs and rss feeds in order to read postings every day. Right now it’s more just research, getting to know the job market, and making sure that I’m going to be marketable once I get my degree. My goal is to find a job back in west Michigan and live close to my family*, but with the state’s economy right now that might not be possible. So, even though I’m not planning on being an archivist, when a job posting for a Technical Services Archivist at the University of Washington popped up on a listserv I was intrigued. After all, I now have family there as well, so I might as well take a look, right?

Sadly it’s not an entry level job, but as I read the list of qualifications I started laughing out loud -

Hey, at least they’re honest.

*unless there’s a job opening in the Triangle, in which case I love you all, but you’re just going to have to visit me, because I will be back there in a heartbeat.

  1. I want to know how many people are actually going to apply for that job. And if those said people enjoy slamming their heads against walls.

I dream too of someday working in the Triangle.
