I’ll admit it, I was a complete recluse this holiday season. A total Grinch. If you aren’t related to me, you didn’t see me.* But last night my sister had a New Year’s Eve party and forced my ass to socialize. Since I had been out of practice for almost two weeks I decided to consume some liquid holiday cheer before the party -

It’s amazing what a little (well, almost a whole bottle) of Cabernet Sauvignon can do to your mean, shriveled, tiny little heart. It makes you an almost functioning member of society again. After some great food (including Dan’s smokin’ hot balls) and drink the revelers left to go get their drink on and ring in the new year at a bar; but I opted to stay home (baby steps, we’re reintroducing me to society slowly) and rung in 2008 rocking this little girl to sleep.

She had partied hard, and wanted to tag along with the big kids, but after some discussion we realized it would be hard to convince a bouncer she was 21. Plus she didn’t have any cash for the cover charge and no one was willing to lend it to her. She was understandably upset at first, but she seemed content with the bottle and a re-run of Project Runway after they left though. Unless she was just lying to make her poor, pathetic, old aunt Sara feel better.

So here’s to a great new year, may your 2008 be miles better than any other.

* so please know that I wasn’t ignoring any of you in Grand Rapids. I still miss you, love you all, and really would like to get together at some point. Please just understand that I was in a huge funk, and, well, you’ve all seen me in those, and know that it was just best for me to hide out at my parent’s house because I can be an unbearable bitch when I really want to be.
