an open letter

Dear Patron that submitted three noise complaints about the technology desk staff in the last two weeks,

First I would like to apologize. I had no idea that we were so repeatedly offensive to you. Apparently the carnival-like atmosphere created by us helping your fellow patrons write resumes, learn new software, and operate the various pieces of cantankerous computer hardware is completely out of sync with your ideal view of what a large, suburban, public library’s technology center (that is rated as the second best in the state in the area of patron service) is supposed to be. Or perhaps you’re simply jealous that we don’t share our tequila with you. Either way, again, I apologize.

Unfortunately, until we and all of the other hundreds of daily patrons have learned sign language, we are still required to speak in decibels loud enough to be heard in order to do our jobs. Of course, another option is that we can simply ignore all requests for patron help, sit behind the desk, and quietly drink our tequila until we pass out. Personally, I’m leaning toward option number two.

Also, I would like to point out that a mere 100 feet away from the tech center is a a quiet study area. There are many comfy chairs, desks, and outlets to plug in a laptop. There’s also lots of nooks and crannies that will provide you ample privacy in which to take the rod out of your ass, just in case you’re getting uncomfortable.

thank you,

the Tech Center Staff

  1. *Snort* Option two! Option two!

  2. LOVE it. Will you be posting it on a bulletin board somewhere? At least where your colleagues can see it? (heh)

  3. I love it! Tech Centers always know how to party like rock stars :) Anyone complaining is obviously just not having as much fun.

I actually laughed out loud at that last sentence. It scared the cats and my sleeping husband. (Which was also kind of funny!)
