a little bit of advice
By me • Dec 1st, 2007 • Category: Detroit, holidays, miscI love Canadians. Growing up in Michigan it’s hard not to, after all, we’re neighbors. And, as far as our neighbors go, we like Ontario a lot more than we like Ohio (and don’t get us started on Indiana.) Anyway, it’s because I love you all so much that I’m giving you this advice.
I’ve noticed that lately quite a few of you have been coming to Detroit and the surrounding areas to do your Christmas shopping due to the falling US dollar. First let me say “Welcome!” We love having you here. And really, it’s a great deal for both of us. You get a good exchange rate for your holiday shopping and we get your money. This community needs all the help it can get right now. But I just wanted to let you know it’s probably not a good idea to yell to your children as they get out of the car “Audrey, you need to stay out of the street, Americans will hit you!”
Now, I’m sure it’s because you’ve heard the latest statistics, but you might want to keep in mind that while in the Motor City some people are a little sensitive right now. And they might take that as a challenge.

Bahahahahaha! I’m so sorry, that’s brilliant. I love it when my people travel. Snort.
HA! having lived in both in Detroit and Windsor I can definately say that some to most Canadians do think this way. The same way that Americans take there ski’s across the border, in July, into Windsor and ask the border guard where the snow is. (the best stories come from the border guards on either side) Even one of my friends was coming to vist me, when I lived in Windsor, in August. His mother advised him to take a coat because “I hear it’s cold over there.”
It really is a shame that being such close neighbors that neither side really seems to know anything about the other.
