late night
By me • Nov 21st, 2007 • Category: family, holidays, nablopomoAnd I’m tired. I worked today and then drove across the state in the freezing rain for almost fours hours (the trip only takes a little over two under normal conditions, but with traffic and weather it was “speed up, no wait, slow down, holy shit ride the break” pain in the ass. However it was made so much more bearable by the audiobook Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris - trust me, you NEED to borrow it from your library) just so that I’d be home for the annual family Thanksgiving tradition. It’s a time honored 30yr old tradition, steeped in the spirit of family, TV watching, and lots of alcohol. We wake up in time to sit around in our pjs, drink coffee (with eggnog in it) and mimosas (yes, we are a family that two-fists it at ten in the morning), eat Grandma A’s sticky buns, and heckle the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. It’s loads of fun, and by far my favorite day of the year. So to be in top heckling form I’m going to go to bed right now, but before I do I did promise you a baby picture.

Gretchen has grown so much in the last two months I almost didn’t recognize her. And of course I couldn’t open PhotoBooth without someone else wanting to play as well.

Have a great Thanksgiving! Tomorrow I’m planning on blogging during the parade, so expect lots of pictures of the TV. And a few of Amelia throwing a temper tantrum every ten minutes or so because I won’t let her put a Dora DVD on during the parade (I love her, I am very flexible and accommodating in most respects, but no on fucks with the Thanksgiving morning tradition.) And the heckling will get more and more incoherent and viscious as the alcohol consumption increases, which is always entertaining, especially to me.
