library tidbit of the day

By me • Sep 6th, 2007 • Category: library tidbit, school

Did you know that the Library of Congress has determined that approximately 1/3 of it’s collection would be irreversibly damaged if read? Because most publications were printed on paper made from wood pulp after 1870, and it’s so acidic that it disintegrates quickly (relatively), that after 100 years the pages have become so brittle that they will flake away if they are turned.

See, you can learn interesting stuff if you go to school.
