BUDGET DISCUSSIONS CONTINUE: WSU OPEN ON MONDAY
- Like most of us, we are watching closely the struggles in Lansing to adopt a 2008 budget for the State of Michigan. While we hope that these efforts will be successful, at the moment it is not clear whether or not the State will be compelled to implement a partial shut down of its non-essential activities on October 1. Several people have asked how Wayne State University would be affected if there is such a shut down. Wayne State University will remain open on Monday, with classes and other activities continuing as normal. While a lengthy shutdown or continuing impasse could be disruptive, over the short term we are able to continue on an uninterrupted basis despite the State’s failure to adopt a budget. We shall continue to monitor events closely as the Legislature copes with this very difficult issue.
CAMPUSWATCH Issue # 93
- ROBBERY: No robberies, or other Crimes Against Persons, were reported on the WSU campus during August 2007. However, one near campus robbery, involving a female WSU student, did occur. The robbery incident occurred on August 29, 2007 at 10:15am on W. Kirby, between Cass and Woodward. A 25 year old female student reported she was putting money in a parking meter when she felt a “tug” on her purse. She turned and noticed the below described subject pulling on the purse. The subject punched the student in the head, knocking her down. He got control of the purse and fled on a bike, riding east on Kirby and north into the Historical Museum parking lot, from there unknown. The student had minor injuries.
- BURGLARY: Three burglaries were reported during August 2007, one resulting in an arrest at the scene. One burglary was reported at the Hilberry Theatre on August 4th, 2007. A second burglary incident was reported on August 14th, 2007 at State Hall. A third burglary incident was reported at the Pike House, 4251 Cass, on August 26, 2007 at 4:25am. In this incident, two residents discovered a 45 year old male subject on the first floor of the fraternity house near the kitchen. The two residents then noticed a first floor window was open (later determined to be the point of entry). The two residents grabbed the subject and escorted him outside where he was held for responding WSUPD officers who took him into custody. The subject, later identified as King Soloman Bright, age 45, no WSU affiliation, has been charged with Home Invasion by the Wayne County Prosecutors Office. The case is proceeding through the Wayne County court system.

Yeah, my work required everyone to attend a flu pandemic seminar put on by the health department. What a crock of bullsh*t. I don’t fall for that crap, and thankfully, I missed the stupid thing (I think I was sick
It reminds me of a Henny Penny bout of hysteria.
You know, this reminds me why I keep swearing to myself that I won’t follow the news anymore - it’s all depressing. Someone needs to start a website or a television channel dedicated solely to reporting happy news.
