pros and cons
By me • Jul 16th, 2007 • Category: family, movingI’m learning that there are some definite pros and cons to having temporarily moved home again.
Pro: a washer and dryer are available for my use at all times
Con: if I don’t get my clothing out immediately my family members take them. And they don’t realize that it’s not theirs until they’ve worn them half a day (how this is possible, I have no idea.) So far my father’s worn one of my v-neck, form fitting, women’s t-shirts and my little sister, who is a 40DD, has worn one of my 38C bras (and wondered why it was uncomfortable.)
Pro: There’s always someone there to talk to.
Con: Sometimes you just want to be left alone in the peace and quiet.
Pro: Cable and internet whenever I want to use them.
Con: My idea of a good television program and my family’s are drastically different. And once you get used to having the TV off most of the time it can get really annoying when it’s constantly running, especially during meals with the family. And has the local news always been this annoying? No cons about constant internet access though, after all there’s no ugly withdrawal symptoms when my addiction is constantly being fed!
Pro: The refrigerator is always stocked.
Con: It’s not stocked with food conducive to a healthy lifestyle. I made the choice a few years ago to stop actively dieting and instead change my eating habits. I’ve watched members of my family struggle with diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, heart disease, and obesity as they get older and decided that I was going to do everything I could now to prevent that from happening to me in 20yrs. It’s worked, the weight doesn’t come off fast, but it’s still coming off and I feel physically healthier every day. It’s easy to eat healthy when you have no choice but good food in your refrigerator and pantry. It’s easy to exercise when there’s no one there to watch you and make comments. It’s a lot harder when your family eats all your good-for-you food (even though they tease me for buying and eating it) and leaves only the good tasting but really bad for you crap in the fridge and never leaves you alone to exercise.
Pro: The boys have a whole house and screen porch to run around in and LOVE it.
Con: Every night I have to do a cat roundup before I go to bed. And the little shits are getting harder and harder to catch. I think I need a lasso.
Pro: Teddie is always fed and taken care of on the days I work late.
Con: I have to hear my sister bitch about it.
Pro: My mail is always brought in and sorted for me.
Con: My father, the man I love dearly but is an incurabley nosey busy-body, always knows what I get in the mail. And there are just some things I could order but won’t until I move because I don’t want my father knowing that his daughter likes stuff like that.
