52 days

I’m moving to Detroit in 52 days, here’s what I have to get done before that can happen:

  1. Sort through a garage full of all my worldly belongings to determine what I need to keep and what I can get rid of.
  2. Refinish an ugly couch, bench, and headboard.
  3. Buy a new computer.
  4. Have a humongous Garage Sale to raise the money to buy the computer.
  5. List the more valuable stuff I want to get rid of on eBay (to make even more money to buy the computer.)
  6. Find a studio apartment. (hopefully in this building or that building)
  7. Get kitty tranquilizers for the drive to Detroit.
  8. Buy a new Feliway diffuser for the apt. (it’s horribly overpriced but it really does work)
  9. Have a 75,000 mile checkup on the car so I know it can make the multiple trips to and from Detroit.
  10. Get a passport so I can visit my friends in Buffalo. (I’ll be so close, it’d be a shame not to… and let’s face it, while I may be getting excited about moving there, no one is going to want to come to Detroit for the weekend to visit me and the boys in a tiny studio apt, no matter how great the view is)
  11. Send out an “I’ve moved so don’t email me at my work email anymore” email.
  12. Find a job in Detroit.
  13. Buy books for my classes.
  14. Ikea trip! (no move is complete without one)
  15. Find a vet in Detroit.
  16. Sign up for health insurance through the university.
  17. New LISP Student orientation on August 17th.
  18. Reserve a Uhaul truck.
  19. Give notice to the bank cleaning job (I’m ready to leave right now but the extra money is needed in the savings acct)
  20. Change my address with the DMV and register to vote in Detroit.
  21. Find a reasonable ISP in downtown Detroit.
  22. Relearn how to write an academic paper.
  23. Spend as much time with my niece as possible.
  24. Fix the legs on and paint my dresser.
  25. Find library job appropriate clothing. (sweatshirts and jeans are just not going to cut it)
  26. Get another new pair of glasses. (when you’re as blind as I am a back-up pair is a necessity, especially when they’re in a funky blue cat’s eye frame)
  27. Find and get a new hairstyle.
  28. Drop 10 pounds (slowly but surely I’m getting there)
  29. Visit Julie, Raven, and Joe for a weekend.
  30. Look into getting my own domain and find a place to host it.
  31. Buy a new (to me) camera that takes short video clips better than the cell phone does so I can put better video up if I get the new domain.
  32. Make my garden as pretty and maintenance free as possible so that when I hand it over to my parents in the fall there’s not much for them to do but water it occasionally and pick the vegetables until I come home for a weekend in October to get it ready for the winter.
  33. Work 50 hours a week at my day jobs.
  34. Find a new bank in Detroit. (there’s very few National City’s there)
  35. Look into getting an alarm put on my car.
  36. Sort through all my clothes and get rid of everything that doesn’t fit and/or I don’t like anymore (which would be about 60% of them)
  37. Have a girls night out (drinks, appetizers, and a Priscilla’s run) with my sisters (Nana knows exactly what is and what isn’t worth the money, it’s wonderful having a sister with that kind of knowledge.)
  38. Get all my prescriptions filled for the next year (trying to work around that whole not knowing what my health insurance is going to be like situation.)
  39. Get my chipped front tooth fixed.
  40. Sit in front of the computer for a 1/2hr and sign over my 1st through 3rd born while I go through my Stafford Entrance Loan Counseling.
  41. Take a woman’s self defense class. (not just because of where I’m moving, I’ve been wanting to take one for a long time, and now would be a perfect time)
  42. Get renter’s insurance.

Yeah, I’m not sure if all of it’s going to get done either. And I’m sure there’s more stuff I haven’t though of yet. But dammit I’m going to try (KEEPING BUSY) and if even 3/4 of it gets done by the last weekend I’m in GR I’m going on the biggest bender I’ve ever been on. Wanna go with? I have a pregnant sister to be our DD. (BTW, Anna, you’re not busy on August 25th, right?)
