rethinking the socks
By me • Jun 8th, 2007 • Category: knittingIn the midst of all the packing, moving, and planning for the fall I’ve also been trying to work on my sockapalooooza pal’s socks whenever I get a chance to sit down. Typically it’s late at night when I’m trying to wind down and relax so I can go to sleep. Needless to say my concentration is usually shot at this point so I’ve been making a lot of mistakes and I’ve ripped the poor thing back many more times than I care to count. As much as I would love to do a mosaic sock for my pal my right now my brain is so full at the moment that it just can’t handle the colorwork chart and the perfectionist in me simply won’t let me do a shoddy project so I’ve completely ripped it apart and am starting from scratch. Which leaves me with the question of what to do - and this is where I need your help.
My sock pal is a sweet woman in South Carolina who is in her mid 50’s, likes pink and purple, and lives with her teenage children and a couple of cats. (I’m not going to link to her blog because I need to remain anonymous and she probably has some sort of sitemeter that would bring her back to my site, but if you go here and click on Dragonfly Judy you’ll find her) She enjoys pretty things. She also had gastric bypass surgery a few months ago and is in the process of losing weight. So the challenge is to find something that she would consider pretty, lightweight (it is SC after all and I’m used to knitting for Michigan winters), and with enough elasticity that she can not only wear it now but also once she loses all the weight she wants to. It also has to be an interesting enough pattern to keep my attention (I really don’t want to do obvious ribbing) but also simple enough to do when my brain is fried. Can you see the difficulty I’m having here?
I’ve narrowed the choices down to some simple(ish) lace patterns. The choices are Cafe Curtains, Quill Lace, Hedera, Scallop Cuffs, and Moc Crocs.
And, once again, here is the yarn that I’m using (I know, variegated is not the best choice for lace, but in real life it’s so pretty and colorful, and I think she’ll really like it):

So I’ve made this handy little poll - let me know what you think I should make and vote as often as you like, because I really need some help right now.
COMPLETELY UNRELATED - jacksonpollock.org is very cool.

nice blog
I’m sorry you had to frog the mosaic sock. I know they take concentration. They also have no sretch, so it was probably not a good choice for your losing weight pal. I am looking at ypur choices and will vote. Hadn’t seen the Cafe Curtains pattern. Thanks for the link.
