playing catch up
By me • Mar 4th, 2007 • Category: cats, cleaning, getting older, school, work‘Kay, I know it’s been a while, but I’ve just been too busy doing stuff and being lazy to take the time to write. Here’s a run down of what’s happened in the last two weeks.
1. A very generous donor made it possible for the Kent County Humane Society to offer “Tomcat Tuesdays” during the month of February, so on the 20th for a mere $2 Foster had his nuts removed. Considering that before the operation he had a couple of pretty impressive black cojones; the fact that he’s now walking around with tiny, shriveled, shaved ball sacks is amusing me much more than it should. (I know, the picture is bad, but you try getting a six month old kitten, or any male for that matter, to hold still long enough to take a decent picture of something like that)
2. I applied to graduate school. Getting the paperwork in went down to the wire, so please please please, everyone think good thoughts that everything got in on time and that I get accepted into the program. As much as I adore and will dearly miss everyone here, personally and professionally I need a change in my life or I’m going to go crazy.
3. I’m still working two jobs, one that I like and one that disgusts me on a regular basis (Friday night I vacuumed up toenail clippings - not in the bathroom, but where the line for the teller forms. ???????????? I can’t figure it out, did someone have them in their coat pocket and, in retaliation for being charged horrifically overpriced bank fees, decide to drop them there or was the line so long that they pulled out their clippers to amuse themselves while they waited?) Consequently, by the end of the week I’m exhausted. But on the weekend I have to clean my house, run errands, and see people I don’t have time to see during the week. Which means the weekend is just as busy as the week, and the cycle just continues week after week after week, and dammit, I need a break. Ideally it would be something along the lines of a weekend where I have nothing to do but eat, sleep, and have sex. However I don’t have a boyfriend at the moment, so sex isn’t an option. Two out of three isn’t that bad though, so last week I cashed in some PTO time and slept all day on Wednesday, it was wonderful (but it would have been even better if I’d gotten laid.)
4. I realized that I’m a grown up. Today my family and I met at IHOP to have brunch. As we were leaving I ran into someone that I was “friends” with in high school. In this particular case “friends” means “someone I knew, and was good friends with for a couple of years in middle school, but then she became much too good and popular to talk to me in public once we got into high school and pointed out all my faults to the other people who were too good and popular and pretty to associate with me whenever she got the chance” and consequently every time I saw her after I graduated I instantly became the awkward, shy, self-hating teenager I was 15 years ago. But today I didn’t, I saw her, quickly said hi, walked out with Amelia, and it didn’t bother me at all.
