all I want for Christmas

As of today Christmas Eve is two months away. That means in about six weeks I’m going to start my Christmas shopping, but for you ultra-organized types who have already started asking me what I might like this year(and you know exactly who you are, you freaks that are planning on sitting cozily at home drinking your hot cocoa and kahlua and feeling smugly superior while I’m pushing my way through a crowded mall filled with other panicked people at 7:3o p.m. on Dec 23rd) here’s what I am getting myself this year:

Yes, after a year of spinning on drop spindles I have become addicted enough that I am willing to to invest the money to get myself a spinning wheel (an Ashford Kiwi, double treadle, with the high speed option kit, unfinished so I can stain it red and possibly paint some flames on the wheel????) and further descend into the abyss of complete dorkiness. Getting this will confirm that I am so uncool, so weird, so folk-artsy-fartsy that the neighborhood children will point and stare through the window at the weird spinster as she sits in her living room, spinning on her blinged out wheel, listening to NPR, with a macaw on her shoulder, and a supersoaker nearby to squirt the three cats every time they attack the wheel or fiber as I spin.

So the most appreciated, useful, fiber-geeky thing you can get me is some roving to spin into yarn here, here, or here (or just get on eBay and type in “wool roving” and see what you come up with - just remember that I like warm colors the most, but enjoy the occasional weird color combinations as well) And then come January you can join the throng of people at my front window to watch the freak show. (but if you bring a bottle of wine I’ll invite you in and you can watch from the warmth of my living room and heckle me - and possibly get to play with the supersoaker)
