on the homefront

There comes a point in every move when you just feel like all the forces in the world are against you. You move load after load of boxes but the apartment never seems to be any emptier. Your shins are lovely shades of blue and purple. You muscles are weak with fatigue. Your back hurts. Morale is low among the troups, all volunteers, and tempers flare at the slightest provocation (for the record, I was not the one who forgot to pack the toilet paper). Folks, we have reached that point.

There was a valiant effort this weekend, and I thank everyone for helping me, but Mother Nature and DTE Energy conspired against us and won. With the triple wammy of cold temps, constant rain, and a small computer “glitch” (resulting in the loss of my appointment to have my gas turned on to provide some much needed heat in the house) we decided we had no choice but to surrender the battle early this afternoon. We were tired and broken, but not completely defeated. Once we regroup and rest we will be ready to fight again.
