all in a day’s work

In order to make the impending move at tad bit less stressful for myself I’ve started packing a few things. Yep - that’s about 1/3 of my kitchen, two closets, my dining room, and all my sewing/knitting stuff. However it doesn’t include anything from my bedroom, bathroom, living room, or the stuff I’m actually using in my kitchen at the moment. I look at this and all I can think is “Wow, I have a lot of shit.” Granted, I do come from a family of pack rats. But I make sure to purge stuff every time I move - what you don’t see is the huge pile of stuff going to Goodwill/Salvy Army. Mostly clothes I haven’t worn in years, or possibly ever - all the women who read this out there know exactly what I’m talking about. The great deal on the clearance rack that if you just lost ten more pounds would look perfect on you. It would be a shame not to buy it, because what if you lost the weight and had to pay full price for something that you didn’t like as much later? But you never do lose those ten pounds, or if you do, you forgot you bought it/it’s the wrong weather (even in Michigan you don’t want to wear a turtleneck in July), and it sits in your closet, often with the tags still on it, taunting you, and never actually gets worn.

Just looking at these pictures makes me feel like I accomplished something - look at those empty shelves! Only yesterday they housed a sad DVD collection and piles of papers that I need to put through the shredder. No, of course I didn’t actually shred the old bills with account numbers on them yet, the shredder was already packed, and I wasn’t crawling to the back of the pile of boxes to find it. So instead I packed the piles of paper as well. Yeah, go ahead, shake your head, roll your eyes, and laugh.
