phone interview #1

Yesterday I got home from work about 12:15, ate a quick lunch, got my cats high so they would crash and not harass me while I was on the phone, and waited for the phone call from Kentucky. Then the thought crossed my mind that Kentucky might be on central, not eastern time, but without a computer to check I figured I’d just wait and see. So when 1:10 came around and there was no phone call yet I figured I had some time to kill so I fixed myself a screwdriver, settled into my chair with some knitting, a cat on my lap, and relaxed.

So of course at 1:20 the phone rings. Apparently there were problems trying to get the conference call to work. But it was anticlimatic - they asked three questions before it was the phone equivalent of us sitting there looking at each other. ????? And apparently this wasn’t the interview, I’m going to be going down there next week to interview. Which yes, is the ideal way to conduct an interview, after all, you really don’t want to hire someone you haven’t met in person. And let’s face it, I’m definitely not going to pack myself up and move somewhere I haven’t visited. But why the phone call masquerading as an interview???? I could have saved myself a night of stress. But it sounds like a good school with a young and active department, so I’m actually looking forward to going there and checking it out.

Anyway, while I was on the phone I at least got some work done on a sock I’m not sure I really like. It’s cute, but too prissy. The combination of the color and pattern just isn’t me (again, I know, camera phones suck, but it’s all I’ve got right now). That and it’s the first time I’ve used the Regia cotton sock yarn, and I really think I need to go down a needle size before I’ll be happy with the way it knits up. Right now it just looks like something my great aunts would have made a dishcloth out of. It will probably get ripped out tonight during phone interview#2. Stay tuned for details.
