weekend edition

I love NPR and Michigan Radio. And I’m not just saying that to make myself sound smarter than thou. I don’t just listen to it in my car when other people are with me to make myself seem more educated and liberal than the average person. I listen to it all the time. You see, I’m poor, but I like to live alone, so to save money I don’t have cable or an internet connection at my apt. But once I got used to the quiet I realized that I don’t even miss them, I have the radio, and the radio is FREE!. Morning Edition wakes me up, Marketplace signals that it’s time to get my coat on and get out the door, The Great Lake Radio Consortium gets me to work, and BBC Newshour means I’m late for work. In the evenings The World means I’m cooking dinner, News and Notes is my general cleaning and straightening up time, and On Point is my knitting/sewing/relaxing with a cup of tea time, and BBC News means it’s time to start thinking about going to sleep.

But nothing is better than NPR on Saturday mornings. It’s my time to relax, gradually wake up with a pot of coffee and some knitting, and just generally putz around the house (after all, I am my father’s daughter.) First there’s Weekend Edition, then Car Talk, Whad’Ya Know, Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me, and the best - This American Life. And this weekend not only did I finish Clapotis (somewhat modified and made from recycled wool/silk yarn, again, I’m poor) during This American Life, but I heard a story about someone I used to know. They did a story about the improv group Improv Everywhere which creates unique situations for an unsuspecting audience, and someone I went to grad school with (kinda - she was finishing up her thesis during my first year) was one the participants of the Virgin Megastore mission, and her boyfriend participated in one of the no pants missions. Intrigued? Listen to the story, it’s very cool.

So anyway, back to another FO - after three months of working on and off it’s finally done (just in time for spring?) and drying in all it’s glory. Note the squirt bottle right next to it, put there to ward off all furry critters that might want to walk on, nap on, or in any way mangle it. Note the cat not giving a damn.
